Ammyy Admin Scam

zannyblogging:

Well this morning’s been so full of events it’s not even funny so lets get started shall we?

I almost lost my computer to hackers/scammers whatever you want to call them; I would want to call them asshole’s but hey that’s my polite version.

Well here’s what they do;

You will receive a phone call from someone proclaiming to be from Microsoft Windows and that you computer system has a problem or you have reported a computer problem to Windows directly and they’re calling you to fix this problem, they normally won’t tell you what the problem is but they will ask you to switch your computer on and go through a step by step instructions, they will sometimes ask you to ‘ctrl + r’ to get the run box up and type in some crap (I had to type in eventwr) but it will not bring up anything other than ‘Cannot find such and such’ so then they’ll ask you to go to Ammyy and download that product, the product itself is legit and save, when you download it they will ask you for ‘Your ID’ which will pop up in the new screen, once you give it them, you still have control over your computer but so do they this is how they will scam you, they will keep you on the line even if they seem to have disappeared but they haven’t hung up.

Thing is they have access to everything in your machine, passwords, information, address EVERYTHING YOU KEEP ON THERE.

Luckily I still had the Ammyy web page open and I quickly skimmed it again and noticed under ‘Ammyy News’ this:

03.10.2011
Got phone call and asked to launch Ammyy Admin?
Important info on malicious use.

(That’s a link to the actual article which has more information of other people who have been scammed)

So this is my warning to you, if you get a call from ‘Microsoft Windows’ YOU ASK THEM A BUTT LOAD OF QUESTIONS! If they really ARE Windows they will answer them legitimately, if they aren’t they will most likely hang up.

watch out, guys
